The effect of shopping malls on local economy or Large shopping malls are replacing small shops. Do you think this is a positive advancement or not?


Nowadays there is an exorbitant increase in the number of shopping malls all over the world. While many consider that this trend is not beneficial for the local areas, others differ in this opinion. This essay will argue that big shopping malls are good for local economies to prosper.

There are a number of advantages with the arrival of shopping malls. The main positive aspect is the rise in employment opportunities for the locals. While local shops can hire a few people, shopping centers can employ hundreds of people, increasing the wealth of the economy. For example, in India, thousands of people are employed by the shopping malls, blooming the financial system of that country.

The second benefit is the increase of transportation in that area due to people coming to the malls. For instance, in a shopping arcade, you get to find a wide variety of items and people from distant places also come to shop for these products. This causes expansion of the transportation facilities and the infrastructure of the place as it has to provide access to numerous people daily and hence improvising the overall standard of the financial system.


To recapitulate, there is no doubt an increase in shopping centers replacing old local shops. Even though some stick with the local shops, the emergence of these arcades has numerous advantages as listed above. In my opinion, this trend has provided more pros than cons to the economy.

1. Before you start writing the essay, Read the essay topic twice or thrice and formulate your thoughts into points and note it down . For eg, you should have a clear idea of how will you organize your body paragraphs. But spend only maximum 2 mins for this.

2. Organize your essay into well structured paragraphs. I ideally opt for only 4 paragraphs with the Intro, Body 1, Body 2 and Conclusion. Introduction should mention what you are going to explain in the coming Body paragraphs. Body paragraphs should contain only 1 to 2 ideas and examples. Finally, conclusion wraps the entire thing .

3. Write in a blended mixture of simple, compound and complex sentences.

4. Use synonyms as much as you can. While practicing writing essays, check the synonyms in net so that you will be familiar in your exam day.
